Current position: senior project leader within the Discovery and Technology Research Department of MSD Animal Health in the Netherlands. Responsibility for a large series of projects within the area of animal healthcare products. Extensive experience with industrial applications of genetically engineered microorganisms and the development of new generations of veterinary vaccines. One of the main projects in last two decades has been establishing vector vaccines based on Herpesvirus of Turkey, a non-pathogenic subtype of Marek’s Disease Virus. This has resulted in the successful product range called Innovax of which new generations are currently prepared for commercialisation. A second major project has been the setting up of a baculo virus insect cell expression system for commercial purposes.
Many viral, bacterial and parasitic antigens were successfully expressed at industrial scale under my direct responsibility over the last 15 years.
Two of these have meanwhile resulted in commercial products such as the capsid antigen from porcine circo virus. In collaboration with the human division from Merck Inc. the system was recently used for the successful expression of very complex Clostridial toxin molecules.
